Benefits of Dental Crowns

Choosing dental crowns at Maple Park Dental Care has many advantages:

  • Protection and Strength: Crowns protect weak teeth from further damage, shield, and preserve the tooth.
  • Enhanced Aesthetics: Our crowns are custom matched to your natural tooth color, to enhance your smile with a natural look.
  • Durability: CEREC crowns are made from strong materials that can last for years with proper care, a cost-effective long-term solution.
  • Improved Functionality: Crowns restore the ability to chew and speak properly, promoting overall oral health.
  • Versatility: Crowns can be used for many dental issues from a root canal-treated tooth to replacing a missing tooth with an implant.
  • Comfort and Fit: Our digital scanning ensures a comfortable fit, your crown will feel like a part of your mouth.

Proper crown aftercare is important to maintain the life of your crown. This includes regular brushing, flossing, and avoiding bad habits. Avoid clenching your jaw to prevent damage to the crown. Also, avoid grinding your teeth to keep the crown intact and functional.

CEREC Dental Crown Procedure at Maple Park Dental Care

Getting your CEREC crown at Maple Park Dental Care is a simple process. Our team will follow the American Dental Association guidelines to ensure each step is done with precision and care.

  1. Consultation: Your first visit is an examination and digital imaging to assess the tooth and determine if a crown is needed. In some cases, a root canal may be necessary before the crown to remove the diseased pulp tissue and prevent further damage. We will discuss your treatment options and answer any questions you may have. We want to make sure you understand the benefits of a crown.
  2. Preparation: Once we determine a crown is needed we reshape the tooth by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crown. Local anesthesia is used to keep you comfortable. We also make sure the tooth is clean and free of decay or old fillings.
  3. Digital Impressions: Instead of impressions we use a digital scanner to capture 3D images of your prepared tooth. This quick and comfortable process gives us the data we need to design your crown. The digital impressions are instant so we can get started right away.
  4. Crown Design and Milling: We design your custom crown using CEREC’s CAD/CAM technology based on digital impressions, ensuring a perfect fit and natural look. The design is sent to our in-office milling machine which mills the crown from a block of high-quality ceramic in about an hour. No need for temporary crowns or multiple appointments.
  5. Fitting and Placement: We check the fit and appearance of the new crown, and make any adjustments as needed to ensure comfort and proper bite. Once happy we bond the crown to your tooth with strong dental cement and you’ll leave the office with a fully restored smile and can use your new crown right away.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Is a Dental Crown Needed?

A dental crown is recommended when a tooth is too damaged or decayed to be restored with a filling. Crowns preserve as much of the natural tooth as possible and restore its function and appearance. They are custom-made caps that cover the entire tooth, restoring it to its original shape and size. Dental crowns can be made of materials like porcelain, gold, or porcelain fused to metal. If your tooth is weak, fractured, or has undergone root canal treatment, a crown can protect and strengthen it.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns serve both restorative and cosmetic purposes. They can protect teeth after root canal treatments, anchor dental bridges, and complete dental implants. Crowns can also improve the appearance of misshapen or discolored teeth, and strengthen weak or fractured teeth. Additionally, crowns are used to support large fillings when only a small amount of natural tooth remains. Porcelain crowns are especially popular for their ability to blend with your natural teeth, enhancing your smile’s beauty.
